Diwali is the festival of lights and giving. It is a triumph of light over darkness, reality
over illusion and celebrates victory of Lord Rama over evil. It falls in the auspicious month of
Kartik. Kartik is that unique time of the year where any spiritual activity or charity done
during this month carries with it hundreds of times more benefit.
“Among all twelve months, the month of Kartik is dear to Lord Sri Krishna. If somebody
performs a little worship of Lord Sri Hari in this month, He offers that devotee His
own abode. This statement is true.” - Padma Purana
Kartik is the month where Lord Krishna was bound with ropes by
Mother Yasoda. And
therefore this month is also called Damodar month. It is in this auspicious month
that Lord Krishna performed the very famous Govardhan Pastime.
At ISKCON Columbus, our team is striving hard to establish a New Temple where Lord Krishna and Lord
Rama holy names and Hari Katha can resound day and night, where thousands can come together as a
community for the common goal of service to Krishna- and in return a service to society. The
community can relish the benefits the temple has to offer like: art, music, dance, education,
literature and history. The vision is to have pristine gardens, orchards where cows, organic produce
from farm, flowers, will simply be dovetailed for the pleasure of Supreme Godhead - Krishna.
